# 👥 Trusted Friends

Trusted Friends let you permanently give selected friends access to control your placed Boomboxes while they are nearby.

This provides an alternative to enabling **Others Around** for everyone.

### Adding a Trusted Friend

Open your Boombox and go to:

**Settings → Trusted Friends**

Select:

**Add Nearby Friend**

Choose the friend you want to add from the nearby list.

The server uses their current connection to securely associate the permission with their persistent identifier.

{% hint style="info" %}
Server IDs are only used to identify someone while they are currently connected. Trusted Friend access itself is stored using a persistent identifier.
{% endhint %}

### What Trusted Friends Can Do

While within the configured control distance, a Trusted Friend can control your Boombox even when **Others Around** is disabled.

Trusted Friends can use normal music controls such as:

* Play and pause
* Play a URL
* Add music to the Queue
* Manage playback
* Seek
* Change volume
* Previous and Next
* Loop
* Shuffle

### What Trusted Friends Cannot Do

Trusted Friend access does **not** transfer ownership.

A Trusted Friend cannot:

* Pick up your Boombox
* Become the owner of your Boombox
* Add or remove your Trusted Friends
* Change owner-only permissions

{% hint style="warning" %}
The owner always retains final control of the Boombox.
{% endhint %}

### Removing a Trusted Friend

Open:

**Settings → Trusted Friends**

Find the friend you want to remove and select **Remove**.

Their permanent access is removed immediately.

You can add them again later if needed.

### Trusted Friends vs Others Around

**Trusted Friends** provide permanent access to specific people you choose.

**Others Around** temporarily allows nearby citizens to control the Boombox while that option is enabled.

This gives the owner control over whether access should be private, friend-based, or open to everyone nearby.
