# 📻  Using the Boombox

This section explains how citizens place, open, control, share access to, and recover an iKCScripts Boombox.

Each placed Boombox operates independently. Interactions and controls apply to the specific Boombox selected by the citizen.

***

### 📍 Placement & Pickup

Use the Boombox inventory item to place a physical Boombox in the world.

The placement system allows you to:

* Position the Boombox
* Rotate the Boombox
* Confirm placement
* Cancel placement
* Pick up an owned Boombox when finished

Canceling placement keeps the item in your inventory.

After successful placement, the physical Boombox becomes available for interaction.

Only the owner can pick up their Boombox.

### 🎛️ Opening & Controls

Interact with a placed Boombox to open the music interface.

Depending on the server configuration, interaction may use:

* **ox\_lib TextUI**
* **ox\_target**
* **qb-target**

With ox\_lib TextUI, nearby citizens will see:

```
[E] Open Boombox
```

The owner will see:

```
[E] Open Boombox • [G] Pick Up
```

Once opened, the interface provides access to music playback and available Boombox features.

Playback controls include:

* Play
* Pause
* Stop
* Previous
* Next
* Seek
* Loop
* Shuffle
* Volume
* Mute

You can also access the Queue, Playlists, History, and available permission controls.

***

### 👥 Others Around

The owner decides whether normal nearby citizens can control the Boombox.

#### Others Around OFF

Nearby citizens without additional permission cannot perform protected playback actions.

#### Others Around ON

Nearby citizens can use supported playback controls while they remain within the configured control distance.

Enabling Others Around does **not** give another citizen ownership of the Boombox.

Only the owner can pick it up.

***

### 👥 Trusted Friends

Trusted Friends are separate from **Others Around**.

A Trusted Friend can retain permission to control an owner's Boombox while nearby even when:

```
Others Around = OFF
```

Trusted Friend access does not provide ownership or pickup permission.

### 🎵 Music Features

The Boombox interface provides access to:

* 🔊 Positional Audio
* 📋 Queue
* 🎶 Playlists
* 🕘 History

These systems allow citizens to manage current playback, prepare upcoming music, save personal collections, and quickly access previously used tracks.

See:

→ **🎵** [**Features**](/docs/boombox/features.md)

***

### 🔊 Positional Audio

Music originates from the physical position of the Boombox.

As citizens move farther away, the music fades naturally until they leave the configured listening range.

Citizens entering the area while music is already playing are synchronized to the active playback session.

***

### ⌨️ Volume Keybinds

An authorized citizen can adjust the currently selected Boombox using:

```
PAGE UP     Volume Up
PAGE DOWN   Volume Down
```

The keybinds affect only the specific Boombox that was selected.

They do not automatically control another nearby Boombox.

***

### 🔒 Ownership & Permissions

Boombox permissions follow a clear hierarchy:

```
Owner
  ↓
Trusted Friend
  ↓
Others Around
  ↓
View Only
```

#### Owner

Has full control and can pick up the Boombox.

#### Trusted Friend

Can control the owner's Boombox while nearby, including when Others Around is disabled.

#### Others Around

Can control supported playback functions while the owner has Others Around enabled and the citizen remains nearby.

#### View Only

Can access available playback information but cannot perform protected control actions.

{% hint style="warning" %}
Trusted Friends and Others Around permissions never transfer ownership. Only the owner can pick up their placed Boombox.
{% endhint %}

***

### 🎯 Exact Boombox Selection

Every Boombox is handled individually.

Opening one Boombox selects that specific Boombox for interaction and control.

The resource does not silently switch to another Boombox simply because another one is closer.

This applies to playback controls, permissions, and volume keybinds.

{% hint style="info" %}
If the selected Boombox is removed or is no longer available, its selection is cleared rather than automatically switching control to another Boombox.
{% endhint %}

***

### 💾 Leaving a Boombox Placed

You do not need to pick up a Boombox before leaving the area.

Placed Boomboxes are persistent and can be restored after server or resource restarts.

Active music playback does not need to automatically resume after a complete server restart.
