# 🎛️ Opening & Controls

Once an iKCScripts Boombox has been placed, nearby citizens can interact with it to open the music interface.

The controls and permissions always apply to the **specific Boombox that was opened**.

***

### 📻 Opening a Boombox

How you open a Boombox depends on the interaction system configured by the server.

Supported interaction systems include:

* **ox\_lib TextUI**
* **ox\_target**
* **qb-target**

#### ox\_lib TextUI

When standing near a Boombox, a citizen will see:

```
[E] Open Boombox
```

The owner will see:

```
[E] Open Boombox • [G] Pick Up
```

Press the displayed Open control to access the music interface.

#### ox\_target / qb-target

Target the physical Boombox and select the available **Open Boombox** interaction.

{% hint style="info" %}
The Boombox you interact with becomes the selected Boombox. The resource does not automatically switch your controls to another nearby Boombox.
{% endhint %}

***

### 🔗 Playing Music

At the top of the interface, enter a supported music URL.

You can then choose:

* **Play Now**
* **Add to Queue**
* **Add to Playlist**

#### Play Now

Starts the selected music immediately on the active Boombox.

#### Add to Queue

Adds the music to the current Boombox Queue without immediately replacing the active track.

#### Add to Playlist

Adds the music to one of your personal saved Playlists.

***

### 📋 Pasting a URL

Click inside the URL field and use:

```
Ctrl + V
```

to paste a copied URL.

You can also clear the current URL field using the **X** control beside it.

{% hint style="info" %}
For information about compatible music sources, see **🔗 Supported URLs**.
{% endhint %}

***

### ▶️ Playback Controls

The main player provides the controls needed to manage the active music session.

Available controls include:

* ▶️ Play
* ⏸️ Pause
* ⏹️ Stop
* ⏮️ Previous
* ⏭️ Next
* ⏩ Seek
* 🔁 Loop
* 🔀 Shuffle
* 🔊 Volume
* 🔇 Mute

Available actions are validated according to the citizen's permission level and distance from the selected Boombox.

***

### ⏯️ Play & Pause

Use the Play/Pause control to pause or resume the current track.

Playback remains synchronized with the active Boombox session.

***

### ⏹️ Stop

Stop ends the current playback session on the selected Boombox.

Nearby citizens will no longer hear the active track.

***

### ⏮️ Previous & Next

Use the Previous and Next controls to move between available music in the active playback session.

When Queue content is available, the current Queue state is used when advancing through upcoming music.

***

### ⏩ Seeking

Use the playback progress control to move forward or backward within the current track.

The new playback position is synchronized for nearby listeners.

***

### 🔁 Loop

Loop allows the current playback to repeat according to the available player behavior.

Use the Loop control to enable or disable it.

***

### 🔀 Shuffle

Shuffle changes the normal playback order when using queued music.

Use the Shuffle control to enable or disable it.

***

### 🔊 Volume

Use the volume control inside the interface to adjust the selected Boombox.

The server can configure both the default starting volume and maximum allowed volume.

The standard maximum is:

```
75%
```

***

### ⌨️ Volume Keybinds

Authorized citizens can also adjust the selected Boombox without using the on-screen volume control.

Default controls:

```
PAGE UP     Volume Up
PAGE DOWN   Volume Down
```

Each press changes the volume by the configured amount.

The standard adjustment is:

```
5%
```

{% hint style="warning" %}
Volume keybinds only affect the exact Boombox you previously selected and are authorized to control. They do not automatically select the nearest Boombox.
{% endhint %}

***

### 📋 Queue

Open the **Queue** tab to manage upcoming music.

From the Queue you can:

* Play a queued track
* Remove tracks
* Reorder tracks
* Clear the Queue

For complete information, see:

→ **📋** [**Queue**](/docs/boombox/features/queue.md)

***

### 🎶 Playlists

Open the **Playlists** tab to manage your persistent personal music collections.

You can:

* Create playlists
* Rename playlists
* Delete playlists
* Add tracks
* Remove tracks
* Reorder tracks
* Play a playlist
* Queue a playlist
* Share playlists with nearby citizens

For complete information, see:

→ **🎶** [**Playlists**](/docs/boombox/features/playlists.md)

***

### 🕘 History

The **History** tab gives you access to previously used music.

History makes it easier to replay or reuse music without finding the original URL again.

Depending on the available action, a History entry can be:

* Played again
* Added to the Queue
* Added to a Playlist
* Copied
* Removed

For complete information, see:

→ **🕘** [**History**](/docs/boombox/features/history.md)

***

### ⚙️ Settings

The **Settings** area contains personal and permission-related Boombox options.

This includes access to features such as:

* **Trusted Friends**
* Default Boombox preferences
* Available permission settings

***

### 👥 Others Around

The Boombox owner can enable or disable **Others Around**.

When enabled, normal nearby citizens can use supported playback controls while they remain within the configured control distance.

When disabled, normal nearby citizens cannot perform protected playback actions.

For complete information, see:

→ **👥** [**Others Around**](/docs/boombox/using-the-boombox/others-around.md)

***

### 👥 Trusted Friends

Trusted Friends have persistent control permission while they are near an owner's Boombox.

This permission can remain available even when:

```
Others Around = OFF
```

Trusted Friend permission does not provide ownership or pickup access.

For complete information, see:

→ **👥** [**Trusted Friends**](/docs/boombox/features/trusted-friends.md)

***

### 🔒 Control Permissions

Boombox access follows this permission hierarchy:

```
Owner
  ↓
Trusted Friend
  ↓
Others Around
  ↓
View Only
```

#### Owner

Has full playback control and can pick up the Boombox.

#### Trusted Friend

Can use supported playback controls while nearby, even when Others Around is disabled.

#### Others Around

Can use supported controls while Others Around is enabled and they remain within the permitted distance.

#### View Only

Can view available playback information but cannot perform protected control actions.

{% hint style="warning" %}
Playback permission never transfers ownership. Only the owner can pick up the physical Boombox.
{% endhint %}

***

### 🎯 Exact Boombox Control

Every placed Boombox operates independently.

When you open a Boombox, that exact Boombox becomes your active selection.

Playback actions, permissions, and volume keybinds remain associated with that selection.

If the selected Boombox is removed or becomes unavailable, the selection is cleared.

{% hint style="success" %}
The resource will not silently switch your controls to a different nearby Boombox.
{% endhint %}

***

### ❌ Closing the Interface

Press:

```
ESC
```

or use the interface close control to exit the Boombox player.

Closing the interface does **not** automatically stop music that is already playing.

The Boombox can continue playing normally after the interface is closed.

{% hint style="info" %}
While the interface is open, gameplay inputs are prevented from accidentally triggering attacks or other character actions while you type, paste URLs, or interact with the player.
{% endhint %}
